Adaptation of the CRC code length for 3GPP NR

A wireless transmitter comprising processing circuitry, the processing circuitry operable to:

• determine an amount of data to transmit as control information using at least one of a polar encoder and a low-density parity check (LDPC) encoder, wherein an amount of control information to transmit is larger than a maximum size of control information for long term evolution (LTE);
• when the determined amount of data to transmit is less than or equal to 3824 bits, determine a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) length of 16;
• when the determined amount of data to transmit is greater than 3824 bits, determine the CRC length of 24;
• encode the data using the CRC of the determined CRC length;
• and
• transmit the encoded data.

A method for use in a wireless receiver, the method comprising:

• receiving encoded data from a wireless transmitter encoded using at least one of a polar encoder and a low-density parity check (LDPC) encoder, wherein the encoded data comprises control information and the amount of control information to receive is larger than a maximum size of control information used in long term evolution (LTE);
• determining an amount of data received in the encoded data;
• determining a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) length based on the amount of data;
• wherein determining the CRC length comprises:
• when the determined amount of data to receive is less than or equal to 3824 bits, determining a CRC length of 16;
• when the determined amount of data to transmit is greater than 3824 bits, determining the CRC length of 24;
• and
• decoding the received encoded data using a CRC of the determined CRC-length.
