Abstract
A system and methods for the correction of optical aberrations in a digital imaging system contained in a cellular phone. The system includes several main parts, including (a) digital filters, (b) hardware modifications, (c) digital system corrections, (d) digital system dynamics and (e) network aspects. The methods correct optical aberrations in captured images using software that is wirelessly updated. The system and methods solve numerous problems in still and video photography that are presented in the digital imaging environment in cellular phones.
Claims21
A method of image processing in a cellular phone, the cellular phone having a processor, software for performing image correction, a memory and an optical system including at least one lens and at least one image sensor, the cellular phone configured to receive the software wirelessly, the method comprising:
- downloading update software;
- updating the software for performing image correction with the update software;
- capturing an image using the lens and the image sensor of the optical system;
- creating a digital file containing the captured image;
- processing the captured image in the digital file by the processor, the processing including correcting at least one aberration in the captured image;
- and
- storing the corrected image contained in the digital file in the memory.
A method of image processing in a cellular phone, the cellular phone having at least one processor, a memory, software for performing image correction and an optical system including at least one lens and at least one image sensor, the cellular phone configured to receive the software wirelessly, the method comprising:
- downloading update software;
- updating the software for performing image correction with the update software;
- capturing an image using the at least one lens and the at least one image sensor of the optical system;
- creating a digital file from the captured image;
- identifying at least one optical aberration in the captured image;
- accessing a database to retrieve a digital filter corresponding to the identified at least one optical aberration;
- processing the captured image in the digital file by at least one processor, the processing including correcting the at least one optical aberration in the captured image using the retrieved digital filter;
- and
- storing the corrected image contained in the digital file in the memory.
A system for image processing in a cellular phone comprising
- an optical system including:
- at least one lens;
- and
- at least one image sensor;
- software for performing image correction, wherein the cellular phone is configured to receive the software wirelessly;
- update software downloaded by the cellular phone, wherein the update software is used to update the software for performing image correction;
- a digital file containing an image captured by the optical system;
- a processor, the processor processing the image in the digital file to correct at least one optical aberration in the image by applying at least one algorithm;
- and
- a memory, the memory storing the corrected image contained in the digital file.
