Abstract
Fluid management systems are disclosed that include software-controlled, electro-mechanical devices used in combination with single-use or multi-use tubing sets. Functions of the fluid management systems can include fluid pressurization, fluid warming, fluid deficit monitoring (including flow-based and weight-based), suction, fluid collection, and fluid evacuation (including indirect-to-drain and direct-to-drain options). The systems can be configured based on the surgical environment (e.g., operating room or physician office) as well as other user needs and/or preferences.
Claims26
A fluid warming cartridge for a fluid management system, the fluid warming cartridge comprising:
- a rigid body having a first side and a second side;
- a first flexible side sheet attached to the first side of the rigid body such that the first flexible side sheet and the first side of the rigid body define a first fluid path, wherein the first flexible side sheet is transmissive to IR energy provided by a heating source of the fluid management system such that the IR energy warms fluid moving through the first fluid path;
- and
- a second flexible side sheet attached to the second side of the rigid body such that the second flexible side sheet and the second side of the rigid body define a second fluid path, wherein the second fluid path is in fluid communication with the first fluid path, wherein the second flexible side sheet is transmissive to the IR energy provided by the heating source of the fluid management system such that the IR energy warms fluid moving through the second fluid path, and wherein the fluid warming cartridge is configured such that fluid enters the fluid warming cartridge at the first fluid path, flows into the second fluid path from the first fluid path, and exits the fluid warming cartridge at an exit of the second fluid path.
A fluid management system, comprising:
- a pump configured to deliver fluid from at least one fluid supply container to a surgical site;
- a control system for operating the pump, the control system comprising:
- a user interface for communication between the control system and a user, including inputting data to the control system, and
- a heating assembly comprising a heating source;
- and
- a fluid warming cartridge comprising:
- a rigid body having a first side and a second side,
- a first flexible side sheet attached to the first side of the rigid body such that the first flexible side sheet and the first side of the rigid body define a first fluid path, wherein the first flexible side sheet is transmissive to IR energy provided by the heating source such that the IR energy warms fluid moving through the first fluid path, and
- a second flexible side sheet attached to the second side of the rigid body such that the second flexible side sheet and the second side of the rigid body define a second fluid path, wherein the second fluid path is in fluid communication with the first fluid path, wherein the second flexible side sheet is transmissive to the IR energy provided by the heating source such that the IR energy warms fluid moving through the second fluid path,
- wherein the heating assembly receives the fluid warming cartridge such that the fluid warming cartridge aligns with the heating source,
- wherein the fluid warming cartridge is fluidly connected to the pump such that the fluid delivered from the pump enters the fluid warming cartridge at the first fluid path, flows into the second fluid path from the first fluid path, and exits the fluid warming cartridge at an exit of the second fluid path prior to moving to the surgical site, and
- wherein the control system controls an amount of heat provided by the heating source of the heating assembly to cause the fluid exiting the fluid warming cartridge to correspond to a desired fluid temperature as set by the user via the user interface.
A cartridge assembly for a fluid management system, the cartridge assembly comprising:
- a fluid conditioner comprising a body that defines a first fluid chamber and a second fluid chamber, wherein at least a portion of the fluid conditioner allows one or more non-contact sensors of the fluid management system to detect at least one characteristic of fluid moving through the fluid conditioner;
- and
- a fluid warming cartridge comprising a rigid body and at least one flexible side sheet attached to a side of the rigid body, wherein the rigid body and the at least one flexible side sheet define a conduit fluidly connected to the first fluid chamber and the second fluid chamber such that the first and second fluid chambers are fluidly connected, wherein the at least one flexible side sheet allows a heating source of the fluid management system to warm fluid moving through the conduit when the fluid warming cartridge is used with the fluid management system, wherein the fluid warming cartridge is configured to be removably attached to the fluid conditioner.
