Abstract
Compositions comprising perforated, unseparated amnion/chorion; perforated, separated amnion; and perforated, separated chorion derived from the placenta and methods of preparing and using those compositions are provided. Perforation of placental tissue before or during processing may allow for one or more benefits such as more efficient removal of blood remnants, retention of wound healing and tissue regeneration components, better handling characteristics, or improved healing capacity. The present invention also includes methods of healing a wound of the skin, eye, nerve, tendon, or dura comprising applying the perforated compositions of the invention to the wound.
Claims27
An unseparated amnion/chorion sheet comprising holes produced by a method comprising:
- a) obtaining an unseparated amnion/chorion tissue;
- b) making holes in the unseparated amnion/chorion tissue;
- c) washing the unseparated amnion/chorion tissue with at least one washing medium over two or more washing steps;
- and
- d) dehydrating the unseparated amnion/chorion tissue;
- wherein the making holes occurs before or between the two or more washing steps and after the dehydrating step, wherein the holes made before or between the two or more washing steps have different shapes, patterns, and/or sizes than the holes made after the dehydrating step;
- wherein the sheet comprises an intermediate layer;
- and wherein the unseparated amnion/chorion sheet has a hemoglobin content of less than about 5 ng per mg of dry mass of the sheet.
A method of preparing an unseparated amnion/chorion sheet comprising making holes having any shape or pattern in an unseparated amnion/chorion sheet or tissue, washing the sheet or tissue, and dehydrating the sheet or tissue;
- wherein the method comprises (a) making holes before or during washing the sheet or tissue;
- and (b) after dehydrating the sheet or tissue.
