Techniques for determining fetal situs during an imaging procedure

An ultrasound machine for determining fetal situs during an ultrasound imaging procedure, comprising:

• a display;
• one or more processors;
• and
• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• obtaining an ultrasound image of a fetus in utero, the fetus including a torso and a spine, wherein the ultrasound image comprises a circumferential view of the torso of the fetus, and the circumferential view includes at least:
• (i) an outer border of the torso, and (ii) the spine;
• superimposing a fetal overlay based on an alignment instruction corresponding to an alignment between the outer border of the torso and the spine to obtain an augmented reality image of the fetus, the fetal overlay comprising a cardiac overlay including a graphical element indicating a left side and a right side and a cardiac axis of a heart of the fetus;
• and
• outputting, on the display, the augmented reality image of the fetus.
