An induction-based cooking appliance comprising:

• a first heating power transferring element;
• a first heating power energy unit adapted for providing electrical power to the first heating power transferring element, the first heating power energy unit comprising a first power switching device, in particular a first power transistor, adapted to be operated in a first frequency range;
• a second heating power transferring element;
• and
• a second heating power energy unit adapted for providing electrical power to the second heating power transferring element, the second heating power energy unit comprising a second power switching device, in particular a second power transistor, adapted to be operated in a second frequency range that is different, identical, or essentially identical to the first frequency range,
• wherein the first power switching device and/or second power switching device is a wide bandgap power switching device, in particular a wide bandgap transistor, comprising a semiconductor material with a bandgap greater than 2 eV.
