Method and system for sharing access to a database

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable storage medium encoded with processor-readable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, enable the computer program product to:

• receive a query for records stored in one or more databases;
• identify a sender of the query by:
• comparing location information and phonetic information of the sender to a list to generate a name matching score and a location matching score for each entry of the list;
• and
• returning a unique identifier corresponding to a given entry of the list based on a determination that an overall matching score for the given entry crosses a predetermined threshold, wherein the unique identifier corresponds to the sender;
• identify one or more sharing rules associated with the identified sender, the one or more sharing rules indicating that the identified sender is authorized to access the records stored in the one or more databases;
• and
• provide the identified sender access to the records stored in the one or more databases based on the one or more sharing rules,
• wherein:
• the one or more sharing rules include one or more field restriction rules, each of the one or more field restriction rules:
• specifying a field and an associated value on which a restriction is based;
• identifying an originating user against which a respective field restriction rule will be applied;
• identifying a user that specified the respective field restriction rule;
• and
• indicating whether records having the field are to be excluded;
• and
• the providing of the identified sender with access to the records includes restricting the access to the records based on the one or more field restriction rules.

A system, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• a memory having computer-readable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the processors to:
• receive a query for records stored in one or more databases;
• identify a sender of the query by:
• comparing location information and phonetic information of the sender to a list to generate a name matching score and a location matching score for each entry of the list;
• and
• returning a unique identifier corresponding to a given entry of the list based on a determination that an overall matching score for the given entry crosses a predetermined threshold, wherein the unique identifier corresponds to the sender;
• identify one or more sharing rules associated with the identified sender, the one or more sharing rules indicating that the identified sender is authorized to access the records stored in the one or more databases;
• and
• provide the identified sender access to the records stored in the one or more databases based on the one or more sharing rules,
• wherein:
• the one or more sharing rules include one or more field restriction rules, each of the one or more field restriction rules:
• specifying a field and an associated value on which a restriction is based;
• identifying an originating user against which a respective field restriction rule will be applied;
• identifying a user that specified the respective field restriction rule;
• and
• indicating whether records having the field are to be excluded;
• and
• the providing of the identified sender with access to the records includes restricting the access to the records based on the one or more field restriction rules.
