Mediator assisted switchover between clusters

A method comprising:

• detecting, at a first storage cluster of a cross-site storage solution including a mediator node, the first storage cluster operable at a first site, and a second storage cluster operable at a second site in a disaster recovery relationship with the first storage cluster, a switchover trigger event;
• after said detecting, determining, by the first storage cluster, the cross-site storage solution is configured to operate in accordance with a first switchover mode of a plurality of switchover modes that trades off a potential for incurring data loss by the cross-site storage solution in favor of maintaining availability of the cross-site storage solution;
• and
• after said determining, proceeding, by the first storage cluster, with an automated switchover from the first storage cluster to the second storage cluster regardless of a state of synchronization between a local operation log maintained by the first storage cluster and a remote operation log maintained by the second storage cluster.

A non-transitory machine readable medium having stored thereon instructions, which when executed by one or more processing resources of a first storage cluster of a cross-site storage solution, including a mediator node, the first storage cluster operable at a first site, and a second storage cluster operable at a second site, cause the first storage cluster to:

• detect a switchover trigger event;
• after detecting the switchover trigger event:
• determine the cross-site storage solution is configured to operate in accordance with a first switchover mode of a plurality of switchover modes that trades off availability of the cross-site storage solution in favor of avoiding data loss by the cross-site storage solution;
• and
• further determine a local operation log maintained by the first storage cluster is in a state of synchronization with a remote operation log maintained by the second storage cluster;
• and
• after further determining the local operation log is in the state of synchronization with the remote operation log, proceed with an automated switchover from the first storage cluster to the second storage cluster.

A non-transitory machine readable medium having stored thereon instructions, which when executed by one or more processing resources of a first storage cluster of a cross-site storage solution, including a mediator node, the first storage cluster operable at a first site, and a second storage cluster operable at a second site, cause the first storage cluster to:

• detect a switchover trigger event;
• after detecting the switchover trigger event, determine the cross-site storage solution is configured to operate in accordance with a first switchover mode of a plurality of switchover modes that trades off a potential for incurring data loss by the cross-site storage solution in favor of maintaining availability of the cross-site storage solution;
• and
• after determining the cross-site storage solution is configured to operate in accordance with the first switchover mode, proceed with an automated switchover from the first storage cluster to the second storage cluster regardless of a state of synchronization between a local operation log maintained by the first storage cluster and a remote operation log maintained by the second storage cluster.
