Anomalous fire and smoke mitigation in laser CNC machines

A non-transitory computer-readable medium, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium is provisioned with program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computing system to:

• obtain sensor data generated by at least one sensor positioned within a safety enclosure of a computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) machine, the CNC machine comprising a laser configured to direct electromagnetic energy to effect one or more changes in a material positioned within the safety enclosure according to a fabrication process of the CNC machine;
• based on one or more properties of the fabrication process, determine one or more thresholds for detecting anomalous fire, anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure;
• based on (i) the obtained sensor data and (ii) the one or more thresholds, detect anomalous fire, anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure;
• and
• based on detecting the anomalous fire, the anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure, invoke a procedure to mitigate the anomalous fire, the anomalous smoke, or both.

A method implemented by a computing system, the method comprising:

• obtaining sensor data generated by at least one sensor positioned within a safety enclosure of a computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) machine, the CNC machine comprising a laser configured to direct electromagnetic energy to effect one or more changes in a material positioned within the safety enclosure according to a fabrication process of the CNC machine;
• based on one or more properties of the fabrication process, determining one or more thresholds for detecting anomalous fire, anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure;
• based on (i) the obtained sensor data and (ii) the one or more thresholds, detecting anomalous fire, anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure;
• and
• based on detecting the anomalous fire, the anomalous smoke, or both within the safety enclosure, invoking a procedure to mitigate the anomalous fire, the anomalous smoke, or both.
