Abstract
A surgical frame and method for use thereof is provided. The surgical frame is capable of reconfiguration before, during, or after surgery. The surgical frame includes a main beam that can be rotated, raised/lowered, and tilted upwardly/downwardly to afford positioning and repositioning of a patient supported thereon. The main beam is capable of be reconfigured between a left configuration and a right configuration to support the patient in different positions thereon.
Claims20
A method of reconfiguring a patient positioning frame between a left configuration and a right configuration, the method comprising:
- providing the positioning frame having a first upright support portion at a first end of the positioning frame, a second upright portion at a second end of the positioning frame, and a main beam extending between the first upright portion and the second upright portion,
- the main beam being rotatable about an axis of rotation, and the main beam including a first main beam portion rotatable relative to the first upright portion, a second main beam portion rotatable relative to the second upright portion, and an elongated main beam portion extending between the first main beam portion and the second main beam portion,
- the first main beam portion extending in a first direction transverse to the axis of rotation, the second main beam portion extending a second direction transverse to the axis of rotation, and the first main beam portion and the second main beam portion spacing the elongated main beam portion from the axis of rotation;
- rotating the main beam in the left configuration about the axis of rotation from a first rotational position to a second rotational position thereof;
- moving the main beam from the left configuration to the right configuration by:
- moving the first main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a first rotatable portion rotatably supported by the first upright support portion;
- moving the second main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a second rotatable portion rotatably supported by the second upright support portion;
- moving a first portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the first main beam portion;
- moving a second portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the second main beam portion;
- and
- moving at least one patient support from a first location on a first side of the elongated main beam portion to a second location on an opposite second side of the elongated main beam portion;
- rotating the main beam in the left configuration about the axis of rotation from a first rotational position to a second rotational position thereof.
A method of reconfiguring a patient positioning frame between a left configuration and a right configuration, the method comprising:
- providing the positioning frame having a first upright support portion at a first end of the positioning frame, a second upright portion at a second end of the positioning frame, and a main beam extending between the first upright portion and the second upright portion,
- the main beam including a first main beam portion rotatable relative to the first upright portion, a second main beam portion rotatable relative to the second upright portion, and an elongated main beam portion extending between the first main beam portion and the second main beam portion,
- the first main beam portion extending in a first direction transverse to the elongated main beam portion, the second main beam portion extending a second direction transverse to the elongated main beam portion;
- moving the main beam from the left configuration to the right configuration by:
- moving the first main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a first rotatable portion rotatably supported by the first upright support portion;
- moving the second main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a second rotatable portion rotatably supported by the second upright support portion;
- moving a first portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the first main beam portion;
- moving a second portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the second main beam portion;
- and
- moving at least one patient support from a first location on a first side of the elongated main beam portion to a second location on an opposite second side of the elongated main beam portion.
A method of reconfiguring a patient positioning frame between a left configuration and a right configuration, the method comprising:
- providing the positioning frame having a first upright support portion at a first end of the positioning frame, a second upright portion at a second end of the positioning frame, and a main beam extending between the first upright portion and the second upright portion,
- the main beam including a rotatable first main beam portion, a rotatable second main beam portion, and an elongated main beam portion extending between the first main beam portion and the second main beam portion,
- the first main beam portion extending in a first direction transverse to the elongated main beam portion, the second main beam portion extending a second direction transverse to the elongated main beam portion, and the elongated main beam portion being rotatable relative to the first upright support portion and the second upright support portion via rotation of the first main beam portion and the second main beam portion;
- moving the main beam from the left configuration to the right configuration by:
- rotating the first main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a first rotatable portion rotatably supported by the first upright support portion;
- moving the second main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to a second rotatable portion rotatably supported by the second upright support portion;
- moving a first portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the first main beam portion;
- moving a second portion of the elongated main beam portion from a first fixed position to a second fixed position relative to the second main beam portion;
- and
- moving at least one patient support from a first location on a first side of the elongated main beam portion to a second location on an opposite second side of the elongated main beam portion;
- rotating the main beam about an axis of rotation substantially parallel to a floor on which the patient positioning frame is placed.
