Abstract
A floating seal assembly for a turbine engine. The floating seal assembly has a carriage assembly, a seal body, a seal face, a pressurization cavity, and an internal passage. The carriage assembly defines a seal seat with a seal cavity. The seal body floats within the seal cavity. The seal face is located between the seal body and a first wall of the carriage assembly. The pressurization cavity is located along the seal face.
Claims20
A floating seal assembly for a turbine engine having a rotor and a stator, the floating seal assembly comprising:
- a carriage assembly having a wall, the carriage assembly carried by the stator, with the wall at least partially defining a seal seat with a seal cavity;
- a seal body floating within the seal cavity;
- a seal face located between the seal body and the wall, the seal face including a secondary tooth confronting the wall and defining a pressurization channel with the wall, the pressurization channel being open to the seal cavity and terminating at the secondary tooth;
- a cavity located along the seal body and facing a rotor face;
- and
- an internal passage having an outlet opening into the cavity;
- wherein the floating seal assembly seals at least portions of the rotor and the stator relative to a higher-pressure area and a lower-pressure area of the turbine engine,
- wherein the seal face extends circumferentially around the seal body such that the secondary tooth and the pressurization channel extend circumferentially around the seal body.
