Abstract
The invention relates to methods of sonodynamic therapy comprising the co-administration of a microbubble-chemotherapeutic agent complex together with a microbubble-sonosensitiser complex. It further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising these complexes and their use in methods of sonodynamic therapy and/or sonodynamic diagnosis. Such methods find particular use in the treatment of cancer, e.g. pancreatic cancer.
Claims17
A method of treating cancer via sonodynamic therapy, said method comprising:
- administration to cells or tissues of a patient in need thereof a microbubble-chemotherapeutic agent complex,
- wherein said complex is additionally attached to or associated with at least one sonosensitiser,
- wherein said method comprises subjecting said cells or tissues to ultrasound irradiation to rupture the microbubble and activate the sonosensitizer, and
- wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is a taxane and said sonosensitiser is Rose Bengal.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a microbubble-chemotherapeutic agent, together with at least one pharmaceutical carrier or excipient, wherein the microbubble-chemotherapeutic agent complex is additionally attached to or associated with at least one sonosensitiser, and wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is a taxane and said sonosensitiser is Rose Bengal.
A microbubble having linked thereto at least one chemotherapeutic agent and at least one sonosensitiser,
- wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is a taxane and said sonosensitiser is Rose Bengal.
