Soft glenoid awning and related repair procedures

A system for preventing abnormal humeral head migration in a shoulder, comprising:

• a bone barrier having a terminal end that is configured to extend laterally beyond an upper periphery of a glenoid when the bone barrier is delivered to a bone bed at a location that is superior to the glenoid, the bone barrier including a strong, conforming material that conforms to a portion of the bone bed and to a portion of the glenoid adjacent to the bone bed, the bone barrier being dimensioned such that when the bone barrier is delivered to the bone bed it contacts an adjacent humeral head to maintain desired motion of the humeral head with respect to the glenoid and to prevent abnormal migration of the humeral head in a superior direction with respect to the glenoid;
• and
• one or more securing means for attaching the bone barrier to the bone bed at the location that is superior to the glenoid such that the terminal end of the bone barrier extends laterally beyond a terminal end of the bone bed to form an overhang over the glenoid with a distal facing surface of the bone barrier at least one of:
• being fixed relative to the bone bed or in contact with the bone bed at the upper periphery of the glenoid.
