System and apparatus for implementing a high speed link between a mobile cache and an edge cache

A method comprising:

• storing multimedia content to a cache of a transportation vessel/vehicle from a plurality of content providers including subscription-based content providers requiring authentication;
• establishing a first wireless connection through a first network interface to a set of edge caches of one or more content service providers prior to the transportation vessel/vehicle arriving at one of a plurality of designated locations, each of which include one or more source caches filled with multimedia content retrieved from on the plurality of content providers;
• establishing a second wireless connection that provides a wireless link with higher bandwidth than the first wireless connection through a second network interface upon the transportation vessel/vehicle arriving at one of the plurality of designated locations;
• and
• identifying portions of multimedia content from each of the plurality of content providers to be transmitted to the cache, wherein the cache is to be filled from the set of edge caches as the transportation vessel/vehicle reaches a corresponding one or more of the plurality of designated locations, and wherein one or more requests for the multimedia content first reach one or more of the plurality of content providers through the first wireless connection and then are redirected to the cache.

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having program code stored thereon which, when executed by a machine, is capable of causing the machine to perform:

• storing multimedia content to a cache of a transportation vessel/vehicle from a plurality of content providers including subscription-based content providers requiring authentication;
• establishing a first wireless connection through a first network interface to a set of edge caches of one or more content service providers prior to the transportation vessel/vehicle arriving at one of a plurality of designated locations, each of which include one or more source caches filled with multimedia content retrieved from on the plurality of content providers;
• establishing a second wireless connection that provides a wireless link with higher bandwidth than the first wireless connection through a second network interface upon the transportation vessel/vehicle arriving at one of the plurality of designated locations;
• and
• identifying portions of multimedia content from each of the plurality of content providers to be transmitted to the cache, wherein the cache is to be filled from the set of edge caches as the transportation vessel/vehicle reaches a corresponding one or more of the plurality of designated locations, and wherein one or more requests for the multimedia content first reach one or more of the plurality of content providers through the first wireless connection and then are redirected to the cache.
