Abstract
A system for adjusting various parameters of an active electronic component based on sensed characteristics of the active electronic component and/or characteristics of the input or output power.
Claims16
An electrical system comprising:
- an active electrical component configured to receive a variable parameter;
- and
- a power management system configured to:
- sense variation of the variable parameter;
- and
- adjust an amount of electrical power supplied by a variable power supply to the active electrical component in response to the sensed variation of the variable parameter and based on a time constant, the time constant corresponding to a slew response time of the variable power supply and determined by:
- varying the variable parameter,
- determining an effect on at least one of a linearity, output power, efficiency, or signal-to-noise ratio of the active electrical component, and
- generating the time constant in response to the effect.

An electrical system comprising:
- an active electronic device configured to receive an input signal and generate an output signal;
- an envelope tracking system configured to generate an envelope signal of the input signal, the envelope signal tracking a variation in an amplitude of the input signal, and the envelope signal having an envelope bandwidth;
- and
- a control system configured to vary a bias power provided to the active electronic device, wherein the control system is further configured to:
- determine whether a variation of the envelope signal is above a threshold level, the threshold level corresponding to a bias power provided to the active electronic device that optimizes at least one of efficiency, linearity, power out, or gain;
- in response to the variation of the envelope signal being above the threshold level, vary the bias power between a threshold bias power and a maximum bias power based on the amplitude of the input signal;
- and
- in response to the variation of the envelope signal not being above the threshold level, maintain the bias power at the threshold bias power.
