Abstract
A system includes a DC bus and an auxiliary power source coupled to the DC bus. The system further includes an energy storage device and a modular uninterruptible power supply (UPS) including a first uninterruptible power module (UPM) coupled to the DC bus and configured to provide power to an AC load from the auxiliary power source and a second UPM coupled to the DC bus and the energy storage device and configured to transfer energy between the DC bus and the energy storage device to regulate a voltage on the DC bus.
Claims10
A system comprising:
- a transfer switch having first and second inputs and configured to selectively couple a load connected to an output of the transfer switch to the first and second inputs;
- a first power module comprising at least one power converter coupled to a first DC bus;
- a second power module comprising at least one power converter coupled to a second DC bus and to the first input of the transfer switch;
- an energy storage device coupled to the first DC bus;
- and
- a DC power source coupled to the second DC bus and to the at least one power converter of the first power module;
- wherein the first power module comprises a first power converter coupled to the load and a second power converter coupled to the first power converter by the first DC bus;
- wherein the second power module comprises a third power converter and a fourth power converter coupled to one another by the second DC bus,
- wherein at least one of the third power converter and the fourth power converter is coupled to the first input of the transfer switch;
- wherein the DC power source is coupled to the second DC bus and to the second power converter of the first power module;
- and
- wherein the second power module is configured to transfer power from a fuel cell system to the first input of the transfer switch via the third power converter and a further power converter to power the load.
A system comprising:
- a transfer switch having first and second inputs and configured to selectively couple a load connected to an output of the transfer switch to the first and second inputs;
- a first power module comprising at least one power converter coupled to a first DC bus;
- a second power module comprising at least one power converter coupled to a second DC bus and to the first input of the transfer switch;
- an energy storage device coupled to the first DC bus;
- and
- a DC power source coupled to the second DC bus and to the at least one power converter of the first power module;
- wherein the first power module comprises a first power converter coupled to the load and a second power converter coupled to the first power converter by the first DC bus;
- wherein the second power module comprises a third power converter and a fourth power converter coupled to one another by the second DC bus, wherein at least one of the third power converter and the fourth power converter is coupled to the first input of the transfer switch;
- wherein the DC power source is coupled to the second DC bus and to the second power converter of the first power module;
- and
- wherein the first power module is further configured to provide power from the energy storage device to a third DC bus coupling the fuel cell system to the second power module to regulate a voltage on the third DC bus and thereby compensate for a delay of a load step response of the fuel cell system.
