Abstract
A method of thermally treating a material includes applying a thermal transfer blanket to a surface of the material. The thermal transfer blanket comprises a thermal energy storage media having a first temperature, the material having a second temperature that is different than the first temperature. Thermal energy is transferred between the thermal transfer blanket and the material, thereby modifying the temperature of the material.
Claims20
A method of making a non-powered thermal transfer blanket, the method comprising:
- inserting a thermal energy storage media into a flexible container, the flexible container comprising a thermally insulating material and a thermally transparent layer;
- and
- optionally attaching a thermocouple to the thermal energy storage media so as to be in thermal communication with the thermal energy storage media,
- wherein the thermal energy storage media comprises a heat sink material for storing and releasing thermal energy with no electrical power and is configured to be charged with thermal energy from a high temperature heat source from 120° F. to 1700° F.,
- wherein the thermal energy storage media comprises at least one of AlN, BeO, BN, and Al2O3,
- wherein the thermally transparent layer is in direct thermal communication with the thermal energy storage media to allow thermal energy stored in the thermal energy storage media to be released through the thermally transparent layer, and
- wherein the thermally insulating material maintains thermal energy within the thermal energy storage media to reduce heat loss and can withstand temperatures of about 300° F. or more.
