Abstract
A pulley assembly having a body, a shaft mount and a plurality of bolts is disclosed. The body is aligned to the shaft mount by providing a tight tolerance between a shoulder portion of the bolt and a neck portion of a counter sunk hole formed in the body. Additionally, an outer surface of the body may have a pattern of friction lines or patches formed by fusing particulate matter to the outer surface with heat generated by a laser beam.
Claims5
A method of installing a two piece pulley on a shaft of an engine, the method comprising steps of:
- providing a shaft mount which is removably attachable to a body wherein the shaft mount and the body defines the two piece pully;
- heating the shaft mount to a temperature greater than a temperature of the shaft of the engine to enlarge an inner diameter of a mounting hole of the shaft mount to a size greater than an outer diameter of the shaft while maintaining a temperature of the body at room temperature;
- inserting the shaft through a hole of the shaft mount;
- cooling the shaft mount to allow an inner surface of the mounting hole to be compressed onto an outer surface of the shaft as the inner diameter of the mounting hole decreases due to the cooling of the shaft mount.
