Micro-transfer printing from adhesive surfaces

A method of assembling components, the method comprising:

• providing an elastomeric visco-elastic stamp;
• providing a component disposed on an adhesive surface of a tape substrate, wherein the tape substrate is (i) disposed on and in contact with a planar support substrate that extends beyond the component or (ii) suspended by a tape frame disposed around the component;
• pressing the stamp against the component to adhere the component to the stamp with van der Waals forces;
• pulling the stamp away from the adhesive surface while the component is adhered to the stamp;
• removing the component from the adhesive surface with the stamp;
• providing multiple components disposed on the adhesive surface of the tape substrate, wherein the multiple components comprise the component;
• pressing the stamp against each of the multiple components simultaneously to adhere the multiple components to the stamp;
• pulling the stamp away from the adhesive surface while the multiple components are adhered to the stamp;
• simultaneously removing each of the multiple components from the adhesive surface with the stamp;
• and
• prior to pressing the stamp against each of the multiple components, disposing an additional structure over the adhesive surface thereby segregating the multiple components into two or more groups, each of the two or more groups comprising one or more of the multiple components but less than all of the multiple components, wherein the additional structure holds the adhesive surface in place between the two or more groups.
