Abstract
The present invention relates to a chewing gum for mucosal delivery of cannabinoids, the chewing gum including water-soluble chewing gum ingredients and water-insoluble gum base, wherein the gum base has one or more natural resins in an amount of 10-40% by weight of the gum base, one or more elastomers in an amount of 3-30% by weight of the gum base, and one or more elastomer plasticizers in an amount of 8-50% by weight of the gum base, and wherein the water-soluble chewing gum ingredients include one or more sugar alcohols in an amount of 35-80% by weight of the chewing gum, and wherein the chewing gum has one or more cannabinoids.
Claims17
A chewing gum comprising:
- one or more cannabinoids in an amount of 1 to 200 mg per piece of chewing gum;
- water-insoluble chewing gum ingredients, including gum base, in an amount of 30 to 60% by weight of the chewing gum before any optionally applied coating;
- and
- water-soluble chewing gum ingredients, including one or more sugar alcohols, in an amount of 40 to 70% by weight of the chewing gum,
- wherein the chewing gum comprises a self-emulsifying drug delivery system comprising a blend of i) one or more self-emulsifying agents, ii) at least a part of the one or more cannabinoids, and iii) an oil, wherein the self-emulsifying drug delivery system is included in granules, and wherein the one or more self-emulsifying agents is present in an amount of 1 to 25% by weight of the chewing gum.
A chewing gum comprising:
- one or more cannabinoids in an amount of 1 to 200 mg per piece of chewing gum;
- water-insoluble chewing gum ingredients, including gum base, in an amount of 15.8 to 60% by weight of the chewing gum before any optionally applied coating;
- and
- water-soluble chewing gum ingredients, including one or more sugar alcohols, in an amount of 40 to 80% by weight of the chewing gum,
- wherein a release rate of the one or more cannabinoids from the chewing gum is at least 20% by weight of the one or more cannabinoids within the first 5 minutes upon oral administration of the chewing gum, wherein the chewing gum comprises a self-emulsifying drug delivery system comprising a blend of i) one or more self-emulsifying agents, ii) at least a part of the one or more cannabinoids, and iii) an oil, and wherein the self-emulsifying drug delivery system is included in granules.
