Implant with bone screw retention

A kit comprising:

• an implant;
• one or more barbs including a first barb, the first barb comprising a head having a top surface, a tip, a curved shaft extending between the head and the tip, and a threaded bore extending into the head, wherein the threaded bore defines a bore axis and extends into the head at an angle relative to an axis that is perpendicular to the top surface;
• and
• an installation tool comprising:
• a tool body having a first end and a second end;
• a control shaft disposed at least partially within the tool body, the control shaft having a first end and a second end;
• a tool interface coupled to the second end of the tool body;
• a control plate housed within the tool interface, the control plate coupled with the second end of the control shaft;
• a first body member coupled with the tool interface, the first body member including:
• a channel to receive the first barb;
• a retention member to engage the first barb to position the first barb within the channel;
• and
• a first interface to engage a surface of the implant to align the implant relative to the first body member;
• and
• a first arm and a second arm coupled with the tool interface, wherein the first arm and the second arm are movable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the first arm and the second arm extend laterally away from the tool interface and in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm engage the tool interface, wherein in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm are configured to secure the implant.

An installation system comprising:

• an implant;
• one or more barbs including a first barb, the first barb comprising a head having a top surface, a tip, a curved shaft extending between the head and the tip, and a threaded bore extending into the head, wherein the threaded bore defines a bore axis and extends into the head at an angle relative to an axis that is perpendicular to the top surface;
• and
• an installation tool comprising:
• a tool body having a first end and a second end;
• a control shaft disposed at least partially within the tool body, the control shaft having a first end and a second end;
• a tool interface coupled to the second end of the tool body;
• a control plate housed within the tool interface, the control plate coupled with the second end of the control shaft;
• a first body member coupled with the tool interface, the first body member including:
• a channel to receive the first barb;
• a retention member to engage the first barb to position the first barb within the channel;
• and
• a first interface to engage a surface of the implant to align the implant relative to the first body member;
• and
• a first arm and a second arm coupled with the tool interface, wherein the first arm and the second arm are movable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the first arm and the second arm extend laterally away from the tool interface and in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm engage the tool interface, wherein in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm are configured to secure the implant.
