Abstract
The present disclosure relates to improved ligature devices and related methods of ligating animal parts. More specifically, a ligature device capable of maintaining a ligature band in an elongated position, applying a preformed ligation band to an object to be ligated, manually releasing the ligation band from an elongated position, and securing a ligation band in a tensioned position is described. The ligation device may be used to apply ligation bands to various body parts of various animals.

A ligature device for ligating an animal body part, comprising:
- an elastomeric member with a linkage attached thereto,
- the elastomeric member comprising at least one elastomeric material suitable for ligature procedures, wherein the elastomeric member comprises a circular cross-section when the elastomeric member is provided in an undeformed state and is operable to at least partially surround the animal body part when in a closed loop,
- the linkage comprising a distal end having a distal linkage aperture that receives a portion of the elastomeric member, wherein the distal end is malleable and operable to maintain the closed loop, and a proximal end having a proximal linkage aperture that receives a tension-applying member, wherein the linkage is operable to directly receive and transmit a force from the tension-applying member through the linkage to the closed loop;
- and
- a locking member having a smooth aperture operable to receive the linkage,
- wherein the locking member is adapted to allow for translation of the linkage and elastomeric member through the aperture in a first direction following the proximal end of the linkage being received through the locking member thereby altering a size of the closed loop, and
- wherein the locking member is adapted to prevent translation of the elastomeric member through the aperture in a second direction following the proximal end of the linkage being received through the locking member, thereby permitting tightening of the ligature device relative to the animal body part while maintaining tension within the elastomeric member.
A ligature device that does not require the use of cutting tools, comprising:
- an elastomeric member having a circular cross section operable to at least partially surround an animal body part;
- a substantially rigid member malleably deformed about a portion of the elastomeric member to alone maintain a closed loop thereof;
- and
- a locking member including an aperture having a flat and smooth surface operable to receive the substantially rigid member therethrough, the locking member further including a locking mechanism,
- wherein the locking mechanism is operable to engage a surface of at least one of the elastomeric member and the substantially rigid member following translation of at least one of the elastomeric member and the substantially rigid member through the aperture having a flat and smooth surface thereby altering a size of the closed loop,
- wherein the substantially rigid member is operable to directly receive and transmit a tension to the elastomeric member, and
- wherein the substantially rigid member is operable to remain on the animal after the tensioning of the elastomeric member.
A ligature device for ligating an animal body part, comprising:
- an elastomeric member with a linkage attached thereto,
- the elastomeric member comprising at least one elastomeric material suitable for ligature procedures, wherein the elastomeric member comprises a circular cross-section when the elastomeric member is provided in an undeformed state and is operable to at least partially surround the animal body part wherein,
- the linkage comprising a distal end operable to maintain the closed loop and a proximal end, wherein the linkage is operable to transmit a tension to the elastomeric member;
- and
- a locking member having an aperture operable to receive the linkage,
- wherein the locking member is adapted to allow for translation of the linkage and elastomeric member through the aperture in a first direction following the proximal end of the linkage being received by the locking member,
- wherein the locking member is adapted to prevent translation of the elastomeric member through the aperture in a second direction following the proximal end of the linkage being received by the locking member, thereby permitting tightening of the ligature device relative to the animal body part while maintaining tension within the elastomeric member,
- wherein the locking member further comprises a locking mechanism having at least one biasing member, the locking mechanism provided within the aperture of the locking member, said aperture adapted to receive the proximal end of the linkage,
- wherein the proximal end of the linkage comprises a tang having a proximal aperture and the locking member comprises a collar,
- wherein the aperture of the locking member comprises an opening in the collar,
- wherein the biasing member is adapted to move within the opening of the collar to allow for the translation of the linkage through the opening in the collar in the first direction following the first end of the tang being received by the collar, and
- wherein the biasing member is adapted to bear against a surface of the tang and prevent translation in the second direction following a first end of the tang being received by the collar.
