Abstract
A container closure interface comprising a follower and a track, wherein the combination provides a rotation to axial motion translating system. One of the follower and the track extends radially from a container opening tubular side wall and the other of the follower and the track extends radially from on a closure tubular side wall. At least one detent is integral with the track, wherein the at least one detent can be located proximate an sealing, terminal end of the rotation to axial motion translating track and/or proximate a releasing and engaging end of the rotation to axial motion translating track.

A container closure interface comprising:
- a container body, including:
- a container body sidewall extending upward from and continuous with a container body closed bottom wall, the container body defining a hollow interior volume, the container body sidewall terminating at a container body sidewall upper edge;
- a container lid, including:
- a container lid tubular side wall extending between an upper peripheral edge and a lower peripheral edge of the container lid,
- a seaming panel peripherally formed about and extending axially upward and radially outward from the container lid tubular sidewall upper peripheral edge, the seaming panel having a shape designed to assemble the container lid to the container body sidewall upper edge,
- at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element extending in a radial direction from the container lid tubular side wall, the at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element including a first engagement surface on the lower surface thereof,
- wherein an upper portion and a lower portion of the at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element are both continuous with the container lid tubular side wall;
- and;
- a closure member comprising:
- a tubular sidewall sized to fit into the container lid tubular side wall;
- at least one second, mating rotation to axial motion translating element extending in a radial direction from the closure member tubular side wall, the second, mating rotation to axial motion translating element including a second engagement surface on the upper surface thereof,
- wherein the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface axially engage with each other,
- wherein one of the at least one engagement surface and the at least one second, mating engagement surface includes at least one detent integral with the engagement surface, wherein the at least one detent is at least one of:
- (a) proximate a sealing, terminal end of the rotation to axial motion translating element;
- and
- (b) proximate a releasing and engaging end of the rotation to axial motion translating element.
A container closure interface comprising:
- a container body, including:
- a container body sidewall extending upward from and continuous with a container body closed bottom wall, the container body defining a hollow interior volume, the container body sidewall terminating at a container body sidewall upper edge;
- a container lid, including:
- a container lid tubular side wall extending between an upper peripheral edge and a lower peripheral edge of the container lid,
- a seaming panel peripherally formed about and extending axially upward and radially outward from the container lid tubular sidewall upper peripheral edge, the seaming panel having a shape designed to assemble the container lid to the container body sidewall upper edge,
- at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element extending in a radial direction from the container lid tubular side wall, the at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element including a first engagement surface on the lower surface thereof,
- wherein an upper portion and a lower portion of the at least one first rotation to axial motion translating element are both continuous with the container lid tubular side wall;
- and;
- a closure member comprising:
- a tubular sidewall sized to fit into the container lid tubular side wall;
- (a) formed at a location along the engagement surface preventing the closure member from inadvertently backing out from a sealing position;
- (b) formed at a location along the engagement surface preventing the closure member from turning to a position where the other of the at least one first engagement surface and the at least one second, mating engagement surface would disengaged from the engagement surface, releasing the closure member from the container opening tubular side wall;
- and
- (c) arranged in the engagement surface restricting the other of the at least one first engagement element and the at least one second, mating engagement element from engaging with the at least one first engagement element beyond a leading section during re-engagement between the closure member tubular sidewall and the container opening tubular sidewall.
A container closure interface comprising:
- An opening of a container comprising:
- a container opening tubular sidewall having a first diameter,
- a first rotation to axial motion translating element formed as a boss extending radially inward from the tubular sidewall, each of an upper portion and a lower portion of the boss formation are continuous with the container opening tubular sidewall,
- a first engagement surface provided on a lower surface of the first rotation to axial motion translating element;
- a plug style closure comprising:
- a closure tubular sidewall wherein an exterior of the closure tubular sidewall resealably assembles to an interior surface of the container opening tubular sidewall,
- a mating second rotation to axial motion translating element formed as a boss extending radially inward from the tubular sidewall,
- a second engagement surface provided on an upper surface of the mating second rotation to axial motion translating element
- wherein each of an upper surface and a lower surface of the boss formation are continuous with the closure tubular sidewall;
- an at least one detent integral with one of the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface;
- an at least one detent engaging feature on the other of the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface,
- wherein the lower surface of the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface slideably engage with one another to assemble and remove the plug style closure from the container opening,
- wherein the at least one detent and the at least one detent engaging feature retain a rotational motion until an excess rotational force is applied,
- wherein the engagement between the at least one detent and the at least one detent engaging feature is overcome by an axial motion of at least one of the container opening tubular and the plug style closure.
