Controlled exposure to location-based virtual content

A method for enabling location-based virtual content, the method comprising:

• receiving an indication of an initial location of a particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• performing a first lookup in a repository for a match between the initial location and a first extended reality display rule associated with the initial location, wherein the first extended reality display rule permits a first type of content display in the initial location and prevents a second type of content display in the initial location;
• implementing the first extended reality display rule to thereby enable first instances of the first type of content to be displayed at the initial location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance while preventing second instances of the second type of content from being displayed at the initial location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• receiving an indication of a subsequent location of the particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• performing a second lookup in the repository for a match between the subsequent location and a second extended reality display rule associated with the subsequent location, wherein the second extended reality display rule permits the second type of content display in the subsequent location;
• and
• implementing the second extended reality display rule to enable third instances of the second type of content to be displayed at the subsequent location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance.

A system for enabling location-based virtual content, the system comprising:

• at least one processing device configured to:
• receive an indication of an initial location of a particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• perform a first lookup in a repository for a match between the initial location and a first extended reality display rule associated with the initial location, wherein the first extended reality display rule permits a first type of content display in the initial location and prevents a second type of content display in the initial location;
• implement the first extended reality display rule to thereby enable first instances of the first type of content to be displayed at the initial location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance while preventing second instances of the second type of content from being displayed at the initial location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• receive an indication of a subsequent location of the particular wearable extended reality appliance;
• perform a second lookup in the repository for a match between the subsequent location and a second extended reality display rule associated with the subsequent location, wherein the second extended reality display rule permits the second type of content display in the subsequent location;
• and
• implement the second extended reality display rule to enable third instances of the second type of content to be displayed at the subsequent location via the particular wearable extended reality appliance.
