Disclosed herein, in certain embodiments, are recombinant Arc and endogenous Gag polypeptides, and methods of using recombinant Arc and endogenous Gag polypeptides.

A capsid comprising a recombinant endogenous Gag polypeptide and a heterologous cargo, wherein (a) the endogenous Gag polypeptide comprises (i) at least one capsid forming subunit from an endogenous Gag polypeptide that is not an Arc polypeptide and (ii) an RNA binding domain modified to bind to a heterologous cargo, and (b) the RNA binding domain is fused to the at least one capsid forming subunit through a linker.
