Abstract
To process early data transmissions from a UE, a distributed unit (DU) of a base station transmits, by processing hardware, a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration to the UE in a release message that instructs the UE to transition to an inactive state (610). While the UE is in the inactive state, the DU receives, by the processing hardware from the UE, a data packet via a PUR resource configured in the PUR configuration (612).
Claims16
A method in a distributed unit (DU) of a base station for processing early data transmissions from a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
- receiving, by the DU, a context request message from a central unit (CU) of the base station, the context request message including an indication to request a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration;
- transmitting, by the DU to the CU, a response message including the PUR configuration;
- receiving, by the DU, a UE release command message from the CU including the PUR configuration;
- transmitting, by the DU, the PUR configuration to the UE in a release message that instructs the UE to transition to an inactive state, wherein the DU transmits the release message to the UE in response to receiving the UE release command message from the CU;
- retaining, by the DU, the PUR configuration;
- and
- while the UE is in the inactive state, receiving, by the DU from the UE, a data packet via a PUR resource configured in the PUR configuration.
A distributed unit (DU) of a base station comprising:
- memory;
- and
- processing hardware coupled to the memory, the processing hardware and configured to:
- receive a context request message from a central unit (CU) of the base station, the context request message including an indication to request a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration;
- transmit, to the CU, a response message including the PUR configuration;
- receive a UE release command message from the CU including the PUR configuration;
- transmit the PUR configuration to the UE in a release message that instructs the UE to transition to an inactive state, wherein the DU transmits the release message to the UE in response to receiving the UE release command message from the CU;
- retain the PUR configuration;
- and
- while the UE is in the inactive state, receive, from the UE, a data packet via a PUR resource configured in the PUR configuration.
A method in a UE for early data transmissions to a base station, the method comprising:
- receiving, by the UE from a distributed unit (DU) of the base station, a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration, which is retained at the DU and received in a UE release command message from a central unit (CU) of the base station, in a release message that instructs the UE to transition to an inactive state, wherein the release message is received in response to the DU receiving the UE release command message from the CU;
- and
- while the UE is in the inactive state, transmitting, by the UE to the DU, a data packet via a PUR resource configured in the PUR configuration.
A user equipment (UE) comprising:
- memory;
- and
- processing hardware coupled to the memory and configured to:
- receive, from a distributed unit (DU) of a base station, a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration, which is retained at the DU and received in a UE release command message from a central unit (CU) of the base station, in a release message that instructs the UE to transition to an inactive state, wherein the release message is received in response to the DU receiving the UE release command message from the CU;
- and
- while the UE is in the inactive state, transmit, to the DU, a data packet via a PUR resource configured in the PUR configuration.
