Device and method for CQI feedback to enable joint DL-UL scheduling in full duplex systems

A base station (BS), comprising:

• an antenna;
• a radio coupled to the antenna;
• and
• a processing element operably coupled to the radio;
• wherein the base station is configured to perform cellular communications to user equipment (UE) devices in a cellular network, and wherein the BS is configured to:
• transmit, to a UE, measurement information via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, wherein the measurement information includes uplink reference signal information for one or more other intra-cell UEs;
• receive, from the UE, first measurement reporting based on first measurements performed by the UE, wherein the first measurements performed by the UE are of intra-cell interference caused by uplink reference signals transmitted from the one or more other intra-cell UEs, as part of intra-cell uplink communications from the one or more other intra-cell UEs to the BS, during a period of downlink reception for the UE;
• and
• receive, from the UE, second measurement reporting based on second measurements performed by the UE, wherein:
• the second measurements performed by the UE are associated with an average inter-cell interference caused by one or more neighboring cells,
• the second measurement reporting comprises an indication of an interference level of at least one of the one or more other intra-cell UEs, and
• the interference level is based at least in part on a ratio of the intra-cell interference over the average inter-cell interference caused by the one or more neighboring cells.

A method, comprising:

• receiving measurement information from a network node via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, wherein the measurement information includes uplink reference signal information for one or more other intra-cell user equipments (UEs);
• performing first measurements of intra-cell interference caused by uplink reference signals transmitted from the one or more other intra-cell UEs, as part of intra-cell uplink communications by the one or more other intra-cell UEs with the network node, during a period of downlink reception for a UE;
• providing first measurement reporting to the network node based on the performed first measurements;
• performing second measurements associated with an average inter-cell interference caused by one or more neighboring cells;
• and
• providing second measurement reporting to the network node based on the performed second measurements, wherein:
• the second measurement reporting comprises an indication of an interference level of at least one of the one or more other intra-cell UEs, and
• the interference level is based at least in part on a ratio of the intra-cell interference over the average inter-cell interference caused by the one or more neighboring cells.
