Abstract
An access point of a wireless communication network serves a connection to a user equipment. The access point determines a plurality of target access points. Further, the access point sends a message to the user equipment. The message indicates the plurality of target access points and authorizes the user equipment to autonomously switch the connection to one or more of the target access points.
Claims15
A method of managing a connection between a user equipment and a wireless communication network, the method comprising:
- a user equipment receiving a single message from an access point of the wireless communication network, the access point currently serving the connection of the user equipment to the wireless communication network and the single message indicating:
- a plurality of target access points and authorizing the user equipment to autonomously switch the connection to one or more target access points responsive to detecting a triggering event;
- and
- a policy to apply to select the one or more target access points from the plurality of target access points based on measurements performed by the user equipment;
- the user equipment detecting the triggering event;
- and
- in response to detecting the triggering event, the user equipment switching the connection to the one or more target access points.
A user equipment, comprising:
- a radio interface for establishing a connection to a wireless communication network;
- and
- at least one processor configured to:
- receive a single message from an access point of the wireless communication network, the access point currently serving the connection of the user equipment to the wireless communication network and the single message indicating:
- a plurality of target access points and authorizing the user equipment to autonomously switch the connection to one or more target access points indicated in the single message;
- and
- a policy to apply to select the one or more target access points from the plurality of target access points based on measurements performed by the user equipment;
- detect a triggering event;
- and
- in response to detecting the triggering event, switch the connection to the one or more target access points.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one processor of a user equipment, causes the user equipment to:
- receive a single message from an access point of a wireless communication network, the access point currently serving a connection of the user equipment to the wireless communication network and the single message indicating:
- a plurality of target access points and authorizing the user equipment to autonomously switch the connection to one or more target access points indicated in the single message responsive to detecting a triggering event;
- and
- a policy to apply to select the one or more target access points from the plurality of target access points based on measurements performed by the user equipment;
- detect a triggering event;
- and
- in response to detecting the triggering event, switch the connection to the one or more target access points.
