Abstract
Methods for tracking a signal origin by a spectrum analysis and management device are disclosed. Signal characteristics of other known emitters are used for obtaining a position of an emitter of a signal of interest. In one embodiment, frequency difference of arrival technique is implemented. In another embodiment, time difference of arrival technique is implemented.

A spectrum analysis system comprising:
- at least one device including a processor and a memory configured to receive and analyze radiofrequency (RF) data including data relating to at least one signal;
- and
- a data extraction module configured to receive spectral components of the at least one signal;
- wherein the data extraction module is configured to determine a modulation type and/or a protocol based on the spectral components;
- wherein the at least one device is configured to determine signal degradation data for the at least one signal and the at least one device is further configured to perform pattern distortion, generate propagation models and generate next neighbor interference models using the signal degradation data and measured terrain data of geographic locations;
- and
- wherein the data extraction module is further configured to compare the spectral components of the at least one signal to previously stored signals in a database and store a match in the database when the comparison is positive and display an indication of a new unidentified signal when no match is found.
