Abstract
A method for initiator identifier compression includes associating respective initiator identifiers (IID) of a sub-set of initiators coupled via an interconnection structure to a target with respective parallel target data streams and performing, via an individual target data stream of the target data streams, an operation associated with the target and an individual initiator included in the sub-set of initiators.

A method, comprising:
- sending a transaction request via parallel target data streams from one or more initiators to one or more targets, wherein the initiators are associated with respective initiator identifiers (IIDs) coupled via an interconnection structure to a target with the respective parallel target data streams;
- compressing a quantity IIDs to a sub-set of IIDs;
- storing a result of the compression in a translation data structure;
- and
- performing, via an individual target data stream of the target data streams, an operation associated with the target and an individual initiator.

An apparatus comprising:
- an interconnection structure, wherein;
- the interconnection structure includes a tiered interconnection structure having a plurality of initiator identifier (IID) tiers;
- and
- wherein an IID compression component and an IID decompression component are located in at least one tier of the plurality of tiers;
- initiators coupled via the interconnection structure to a target;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- receive transaction requests from the initiators;
- responsive to receipt of the transaction requests from the initiators, compress a quantity initiator identifiers (IIDs) to a sub-set of IIDs with respective parallel target data streams of the target;
- and
- perform, via an individual target data stream of the target data streams, an operation associated with the target and a translated IID of an initiator included in the sub-set of initiators.

An apparatus comprising:
- a tiered interconnection structure including a plurality of tiers;
- a plurality of initiators coupled via the interconnection structure to a target;
- wherein the plurality of initiators are grouped into initiator sub-groups with different data stream priorities, a sub-set of the plurality of initiators having respective initiator identifiers (IIDs) and parallel target data streams of the target associated therewith;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- receive transaction requests from the plurality of initiators;
- and
- perform, via an individual target data stream of the target data streams, an operation associated with the target and a respective translated IID of an initiator included in the sub-set of initiators that has been translated based on information included in a translation table from a respective original IID of the initiator to a final compressed IID.
