Wireless charging in eyewear with enhanced positional freedom

A wireless power transfer system operatively associated with eyewear and a receptacle, the receptacle configured for mechanical interaction with the eyewear, the eyewear including a front face, a first arm, a second arm, and a load, the wireless power transfer system comprising:

• a wireless power transmission system operatively associated with the receptacle, the wireless power transmission system comprising at least one transmitter antenna operable to (i) emit an alternating electromagnetic field that delivers both wireless power and first wireless data, and (ii) couple, via the alternating electromagnetic field, with at least one receiver antenna of a wireless power receiver system;
• and
• the wireless power receiver system operatively associated with the eyewear, the wireless power receiver system comprising:
• the at least one receiver antenna operable to (i) couple, via the alternating electromagnetic field, with the at least one transmitter antenna and (ii) produce an alternating current (AC) signal in accordance with the alternating electromagnetic filed, wherein the AC signal delivers both the wireless power and wireless data, and wherein the at least one receiver antenna is positioned on or within the first arm, the second arm, or combinations thereof;
• a voltage isolation circuit operable to (i) receive the AC signal from the at least one receiver antenna, (ii) produce an AC power signal in accordance with the AC signal and the wireless power, and (iii) produce a scaled AC signal in accordance with the AC signal and the first wireless data;
• a rectifier operable to (i) receive the AC power signal from the voltage isolation circuit (ii) produce a direct current (DC) power signal in accordance with the AC power signal, and (iii) provide the DC power signal to the load of the eyewear;
• and
• a receiver control system operable to (i) receive the scaled AC signal, (ii) decode the scaled AC signal to extract the wireless data, (iii) modify the alternating electromagnetic field produced by the wireless transmission system to encode second wireless data to send back to the wireless transmission system, wherein the scaled AC signal isolates the receiver control system from unacceptable voltage swings of the AC signal,
• wherein the first arm and the second arm are configurable to be folded inward toward the front face in at least a first folded configuration and a second folded configuration, wherein the first folded configuration comprises the first arm folded in closer proximity to the front face than the second arm, and wherein the second folded configuration comprises the second arm folded in closer proximity to the front face than the first arm, and
• wherein, in both the first folded configuration and the second folded configuration the at least one receiver antenna is operable to couple with the at least one transmitter antenna.
