A zinc ion battery system comprising A) a zinc anode, B) an electrolyte comprising a solution of a Zinc salt, and C) a zinc electrode comprising I) a DMTD derivative of formula
- where X is a negative charge or H, or a hydrocarbyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms II) a polymer binder, and III) at least one conductive material.
