Abstract
A driving analysis server may be configured to receive vehicle operation data from vehicle sensors, and may use the data to identify a potentially high-risk or unsafe driving event by the vehicle. The driving analysis server also may receive corresponding image data, video, or object proximity data from the vehicle or one or more other data sources, and may use the image, video, or proximity data to analyze the potentially high-risk or unsafe driving event. A driver score for the vehicle or driver may be calculated or adjusted based on the analysis of the data and the determination of one or more causes of the driving event.
Claims20
A driving analysis device comprising:
- a processing unit comprising a processor;
- and
- a memory unit storing computer-executable instructions, which when executed by the processing unit, cause the driving analysis device to:
- receive vehicle driving data collected by one or more vehicle operation sensors associated with a vehicle;
- determine an occurrence of a vehicle driving event based on the vehicle driving data;
- determine a time and a location of the occurrence of the vehicle driving event;
- retrieve vehicle driving event data from one or more databases based on the time and the location, the vehicle driving event data obtained using one or more data sources;
- determine whether an external cause for the occurrence of the vehicle driving event can be identified from the vehicle driving event data;
- and
- responsive to determining that the external cause for the occurrence of the vehicle driving event can be identified:
- retrieve additional data, the additional data including a driver profile comprising driving behaviors associated with the vehicle driving event, the additional data including road conditions at the time and the location;
- calculate, based on the additional data, a reaction time for a driver of the vehicle to react to an obstruction associated with the external cause at a predetermined time and a speed of the vehicle;
- compare the calculated reaction time to a reaction time threshold, the reaction time threshold is dynamically determined based on at least one of the driver profile and the road conditions at the time and the location;
- determine whether the external cause was at least one of unsafe or high-risk driving based on the comparing;
- maintain a driver score when the external cause was not at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- adjust the driver score when the external cause was at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- and
- control, via the processing unit, a wireless transmission of information of the vehicle driving event to an external system, wherein the control of the wireless transmission comprises:
- transmit a report of the occurrence of the vehicle driving event to the external system based on the determination that the external cause corresponds to at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of the vehicle;
- and
- refrain from transmitting the report of the occurrence of the vehicle driving event to the external system when the external cause does not correspond to the at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of the vehicle.
A method comprising:
- receiving driving data collected by one or more sensors associated with a vehicle;
- determining a vehicle driving event using the driving data;
- determining a time and a location of the vehicle driving event;
- retrieving vehicle driving event data from one or more databases based on the time and the location, the vehicle driving event data obtained using one or more data sources;
- determining whether an external cause for the vehicle driving event can be determined from the vehicle driving event data;
- and
- responsive to determining that the external cause for the vehicle driving event can be determined:
- retrieving additional data, the additional data including a driver profile comprising driving behaviors associated with the vehicle driving event, the additional data including road conditions at the time and the location;
- calculating, based on the additional data, a reaction time for a driver of the vehicle to react to an obstruction associated with the external cause at a predetermined time and a speed of the vehicle;
- comparing the calculated reaction time to a reaction time threshold, the reaction time threshold is dynamically determined based on the at least one of the driver profile and the road conditions at the time and the location;
- determining whether the external cause was at least one of unsafe or high-risk driving based on the comparing;
- maintaining a driver score when the external cause was not at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- adjusting the driver score when the external cause was at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- and
- controlling a wireless transmission of information of the vehicle driving event to an external system, wherein the controlling of the wireless transmission comprises:
- transmitting a report of the vehicle driving event to the external system based on the determination that the external cause corresponds to at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of the vehicle;
- and
- refraining from transmitting the report of the vehicle driving event to the external system when the external cause does not correspond to the at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of the vehicle.
One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a computing device to:
- receive vehicle driving data collected by one or more sensors;
- determine a vehicle driving event based on the vehicle driving data;
- determine a time and a location of the vehicle driving event;
- retrieve vehicle driving event data from one or more databases based on the time and the location, the vehicle driving event data obtained using one or more data sources;
- determine whether an external cause for the vehicle driving event can be determined from the vehicle driving event data;
- and
- responsive to determining that the external cause for the vehicle driving event can be determined:
- retrieve additional data, the additional data including a driver profile comprising driving behaviors associated with the vehicle driving event, the additional data including road conditions at the time and the location;
- calculate, based on the additional data, a reaction time for a driver of the vehicle to react to an obstruction associated with the external cause at a predetermined time and a speed of the vehicle;
- compare the calculated reaction time to a reaction time threshold, the reaction time threshold is dynamically determined based on at least one of the driver profile and the road conditions at the time and the location;
- determine whether the external cause was at least one of unsafe or high-risk driving based on the comparing;
- maintain a driver score when the external cause was not at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- adjust the driver score when the external cause was at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving;
- and
- control a wireless transmission of information of the vehicle driving event to an external system, wherein the control of the wireless transmission comprises:
- transmit a report of the vehicle driving event to the external system based on the determination that the external cause corresponds to at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of a vehicle;
- and
- refrain from transmitting the report of the vehicle driving event to the external system when the external cause does not correspond to the at least one of the unsafe or the high-risk driving by the driver of the vehicle.
