Abstract
A method for automatically generating table images includes determining a table configuration including a number of rows of the table, a number of columns of the table and a spanning area of the table, the spanning area indicating a fraction of spanning cells in the table. The table may be generated in accordance with the table configuration. Content may be inserted into cells of the table using a selected content template. An image table of an appearance of the table may be created and the image table may be provided.
Claims19
A method for automatically generating table images, the method comprising:
- determining a table configuration, the table configuration comprising a number of rows of the table, a number of columns of the table and a spanning area of the table, the spanning area indicating a fraction of spanning cells in the table;
- providing table content templates comprising table contents;
- generating the table in accordance with the table configuration, wherein generating the table in accordance with the table configuration comprises:
- defining a table having a cell, named elementary cell, in each crossing point of a row and column of the table;
- randomly selecting an elementary cell of the table;
- merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the row of the selected elementary cell and merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the column of the selected elementary cell, resulting in a spanning cell;
- repeating the random selection and the merging steps until the spanning area is achieved;
- and
- in response to determining that the spanning area is achieved, providing the table;
- selecting a table content template of the table content templates;
- inserting content into cells of the table using the selected content template;
- creating an image table of an appearance of the table;
- and
- providing the image table.

A computer program product for automatically generating table images, the computer program product comprising:
- one or more computer-readable storage media and program instructions stored on the one or more computer-readable storage media, the program instructions executable by a computing system to cause the computing system to perform a method comprising:
- determining a table configuration, the table configuration comprising a number of rows of a table, a number of columns of the table and a spanning area of the table, the spanning area indicating a fraction of spanning cells in the table;
- providing table content templates comprising table contents;
- generating the table in accordance with the table configuration, wherein generating the table in accordance with the table configuration comprises:
- defining a table having a cell, named elementary cell, in each crossing point of a row and column of the table;
- randomly selecting an elementary cell of the table;
- merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the row of the selected elementary cell and merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the column of the selected elementary cell, resulting in a spanning cell;
- and
- repeating the random selection and the merging steps until the spanning area is achieved;
- selecting a table content template of the table content templates;
- inserting content into cells of the table using the selected content template;
- creating an image table of an appearance of the table;
- and
- providing the image table.

A computer system for automatically generating table images, the computer system comprising:
- one or more computer processors, one or more computer-readable storage media, and program instructions stored on the one or more of the computer-readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more processors, wherein the computer system is capable of performing a method comprising:
- determining a table configuration, the table configuration comprising a number of rows of a table, a number of columns of the table and a spanning area of the table, the spanning area indicating a fraction of spanning cells in the table;
- providing table content templates comprising table contents;
- generating the table in accordance with the table configuration, wherein generating the table in accordance with the table configuration comprises:
- defining a table having a cell, named elementary cell, in each crossing point of a row and column of the table;
- randomly selecting an elementary cell of the table;
- merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the row of the selected elementary cell and merging the selected elementary cell with one or more elementary cells along the column of the selected elementary cell, resulting in a spanning cell;
- and
- repeating the random selection and the merging steps until the spanning area is achieved;
- selecting a table content template of the table content templates;
- inserting content into cells of the table using the selected content template;
- creating an image table of an appearance of the table;
- and
- providing the image table.
