Systems and methods for account verification

An apparatus for account verification, the apparatus comprising:

• a computing device programmed to:
• receive a request for payment transmission from a payment provider device, wherein the request for payment transmission is a request for a real-time payment transaction to transfer funds between the payment provider device and a payment destination device;
• account identification circuitry programmed to:
• identify, using account information of a recipient, the payment destination device within an account information database, and
• generate, based on the identification of the payment destination device, a first verification element for the payment destination device associated with the request for payment transmission;
• payment circuitry programmed to transmit over a payment network, the first verification element to the payment destination device via a first real-time payment message, wherein the first real-time payment message does not initiate the real-time payment transaction;
• wherein the account identification circuitry is further programmed to:
• verify an identity of the payment destination device in response to the computing device receiving responsive authorization to the first real-time payment message from the payment destination device, and
• in response to receiving a request for mutual verification from the payment destination device over the payment network, generate a second verification element for the payment provider device;
• wherein the payment circuitry is further programmed to transmit, over the payment network, the second verification element to the payment provider device via a second real-time payment message, wherein the second real-time payment message does not initiate the real-time payment transaction, wherein the first real-time payment message and the second real-time payment message consist of non-financial information,
• wherein the account identification circuitry is further programmed to verify an identity of the payment provider device in response to the computing device receiving responsive authorization to the second real-time payment message from the payment provider device, and
• wherein the payment circuitry is further configured to transmit a notification to the payment destination device indicative of a verification outcome associated with the verification of the payment provider device.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for using an apparatus to verify accounts, the non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to:

• receive a request for payment transmission from a payment provider device, wherein the request for payment transmission is a request for a real-time payment transaction to transfer funds between the payment provider device and a payment destination device;
• identify, using account information of a recipient, the payment destination device within an account information database;
• generate, based on the identification of the payment destination device, a first verification element for the payment destination device associated with the request for payment transmission;
• transmit, over a payment network, the first verification element to the payment destination device via a first real-time payment message, wherein the first real-time payment message does not initiate the real-time payment transaction;
• verify an identity of the payment destination device in response to the apparatus receiving responsive authorization to the first real-time payment message from the payment destination device;
• in response to receiving a request for mutual verification from the payment destination device over the payment network, generate a second verification element for the payment provider device;
• transmit, over the payment network, the second verification element to the payment provider device via a second real-time payment message, wherein the second real-time payment message does not initiate the real-time payment transaction, wherein the first real-time payment message and the second real-time payment message consist of non-financial information;
• verify an identity of the payment provider device in response to the apparatus receiving responsive authorization to the second real-time payment message from the payment provider device;
• and
• transmit, in response to verifying the payment provider device, a notification to the payment destination device indicative of a verification outcome associated with the verification of the payment provider device.
