Abstract
A correlated sparse nodes and mini-streamers system for collecting seismic data includes plural nodes distributed on the ocean bottom, and a mini-streamer spread that includes plural mini-streamers. The plural nodes and the mini-streamer spread are configured to simultaneously collect seismic data from a surveyed subsurface, and wherein a length of the mini-streamers is equal to or less than three times an inline distance between adjacent nodes of the plural nodes.
Claims15
A seismic data acquisition system, the system comprising:
- plural sparse nodes arranged on the ocean bottom with a crossline distance w between adjacent nodes, of the plural sparse nodes, of at least 600 m;
- and
- a mini-streamer spread that includes plural mini-streamers with a length L less than 3000 m,
- wherein inline and crossline characteristics of the plural sparse nodes and the mini-streamer spread are coordinated so that, when recording seismic data associated with one or more sources,
- an inline separation I between adjacent nodes among the plural sparse nodes and the length L of the mini-streamer spread are correlated according to a predetermined mathematical relationship configured to compensate for near-offset and reflection-angle sampling gaps introduced by the crossline distance w, such that L≤3 l,
- a crossline width W of the mini-streamer spread is equal to or larger than the crossline distance w of the plural sparse nodes, and
- a crossline distance covered by the mini-streamer spread based on a predetermined number of passes selected as a function of the crossline distance w, between adjacent lines of sparse nodes of the plural sparse nodes, is mathematically related to the crossline distance w of the plural sparse nodes.

A seismic data acquisition method comprising:
- arranging plural sparse nodes on the ocean floor bottom with a crossline distance w between adjacent nodes, of the plural sparse nodes, of at least 600 m;
- towing one or more sources configured to generate seismic waves and a mini-streamer spread including plural mini-streamers with a length L less than 3000 m along an inline direction, above the plural sparse nodes;
- and
- acquiring seismic data using the plural sparse nodes and seismic receivers distributed along mini-streamers of the mini-streamer spread when the one or more sources are fired while towed above the plural sparse nodes,
- wherein inline and crossline characteristics of the plural sparse nodes and the mini-streamer spread are coordinated so that, when recording the seismic data,
- an inline separation I between adjacent nodes among the plural sparse nodes and the length L of the mini-streamer spread are correlated according to a predetermined mathematical relationship configured to compensate for near-offset and reflection-angle sampling gaps introduced by the crossline distance w, such that L≤3 l,
- a crossline width W of the mini-streamer spread is equal to or larger than the crossline distance w of the plural sparse nodes, and
- a crossline distance covered by the mini-streamer spread based on a predetermined number of passes selected as a function of the crossline distance w, between adjacent lines of sparse nodes of the plural sparse nodes, is mathematically related to the crossline distance w of the plural sparse nodes.
