Lighting strike detection device, system, and method using sensing information from an optical fiber network configured for communication

A lightning strike detection system comprising:

• at least one memory configured to store instructions;
• and
• at least one processor configured to execute the instructions to:
• receive an optical signal including sensing information from an optical fiber network configured for communication, the optical fiber network detecting the sensing information and
• detect an occurrence of a lightning strike in the optical fiber network by using the sensing information included in the optical signal,
• wherein the sensing information indicates at least a vibration pattern of the lightning strike,
• wherein the at least one processor is configured to execute the instructions to:
• detect the occurrence of the lightning strike, based on the vibration pattern;
• detect presence or absence of the occurrence of the lightning strike;
• and
• detect an occurrence place of the lightning strike in the optical fiber network.

A lightning strike detection method comprising:

• receiving, by at least one memory configured to store instructions and at least one processor configured to execute the instructions, an optical signal including sensing information from an optical fiber network configured for communication, the optical fiber network detecting the sensing information;
• and
• detecting, by the at least one processor, an occurrence of a lightning strike in the optical fiber network by using the sensing information included in the optical signal,
• wherein the sensing information indicates at least a vibration pattern of the lightning strike,
• wherein the at least one processor is configured to execute the instructions to:
• detect the occurrence of the lightning strike, based on the vibration pattern;
• detect presence or absence of the occurrence of the lightning strike;
• and
• detect an occurrence place of the lightning strike in the optical fiber network.
