Abstract
A tension element for use in a load bearing member of an elevator system includes a first layer having a plurality of first wires and a second layer having a plurality of second wires. The second layer is positioned radially outward of and surrounds the first layer. The first layer has a first lay direction and the second layer has a second lay direction. The second lay direction is opposite the first lay direction.
Claims15
A tension element for use in a load bearing member of an elevator system, the tension element comprising:
- a first layer having a plurality of first wires, the first layer being a core of the tension element, wherein the plurality of first wires are individual wires and the plurality of first wires within the first layer are twisted with a first lay direction;
- a second layer having a plurality of second wires, the second layer being positioned radially outward of and surrounding the first layer, wherein the plurality of second wires are individual wires and the plurality of second wires within the second layer are twisted with a second lay direction, wherein the second lay direction is opposite the first lay direction, wherein only one second wire is arranged at each radial position relative to the first layer when the tension element is viewed in a cross-section oriented perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the tension element;
- a third layer having at least one third wire positioned radially outward of and surrounding the second layer, wherein the third layer has the first lay direction.
A load bearing system for use in an elevator system comprising:
- a load bearing member comprising:
- at least one tension element having a plurality of individual wires arranged in a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer, the first layer of individual wires forming a core of the at least one tension element and the second layer of individual wires being positioned radially outward of and directly adjacent to the first layer such that the second layer surrounds the first layer, the third layer of individual wires being positioned radially outward of and directly adjacent to the second layer, the first layer having a first lay direction and the second layer having a second lay direction, and the third layer having the first lay direction, the second lay direction being opposite the first lay direction;
- wherein a single second wire is arranged at each radial position relative to the first layer when the tension element is viewed in a cross-section oriented perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the tension element;
- and
- a jacket material encapsulating the at least one tension element.
