Abstract
An apparatus, method, and non-transitory medium for betting on weather predictions are disclosed herein. A plurality of longitude and latitude coordinate pairs may be received from a remote device. The display device may render data on a graphical user interface representing a binary option based on whether a storm will make landfall within the certain radius. The display device may show a plurality of landfall probabilities on the map. A request to purchase the binary option may be received. It may be determined whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude latitude pair in the memory.
Claims13
An apparatus configured for insuring against possible storm damage, the apparatus comprising:
- a memory;
- a display device;
- a network interface to communicate with at least one remote device;
- and
- at least one processor configured to:
- receive from a remote device a plurality of longitude and latitude coordinate pairs;
- generate in the memory an association between a given longitude and latitude pair and each zip code within a certain radius from the given longitude and latitude pair;
- render on the display device a graphical representation of a map and a circle around the given longitude and latitude pair on the map, a radius of the circle corresponding to the certain radius;
- render on the display device a graphical user interface comprising data representing a binary option based on whether a storm will make landfall within the certain radius;
- render on the display device a plurality of landfall probabilities on the map, wherein the probabilities are rendered numerically at each zip code, and wherein the probabilities are rendered on centroids of the zip codes;
- receive data indicative of a request to sell the binary option from the graphical user interface;
- keep a margin based, at least in part, on a potential payout of the binary option;
- receive from a remote device a landfall location of the storm;
- identify whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory;
- in response to identifying whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory, calculate a payout of the binary option;
- and
- facilitate payment of the calculated payout of the binary option.
A method for insuring against possible storm damage, the method performed by at least one processor on an apparatus, the method comprising:
- receiving from a remote device a plurality of longitude and latitude coordinate pairs;
- generating in a memory of the apparatus an association between a given longitude and latitude pair and each zip code within a certain radius from the given longitude and latitude pair;
- rendering on a display device of the apparatus a graphical representation of a map and a circle around the given longitude and latitude pair on the map, a radius of the circle corresponding to the certain radius;
- rendering on the display device a graphical user interface comprising data representing a binary option based on whether a storm will make landfall within the certain radius;
- rendering on the display device a plurality of landfall probabilities on the map, wherein the probabilities are rendered numerically at each zip code, and wherein the probabilities are rendered on centroids of the zip codes;
- receiving data indicative of a request to sell the binary option from the graphical user interface;
- keeping a margin based, at least in part, on a potential payout of the binary option;
- receiving from a remote device a landfall location of the storm;
- identifying whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory;
- in response to identifying whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory, calculate a payout of the binary option;
- and
- facilitating payment of the calculated payout of the binary option.
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium with instructions stored therein which upon execution perform a method for insuring against possible storm damage by instructing at least one processor to:
- receive from a remote device a plurality of longitude and latitude coordinate pairs;
- generate in a memory an association between a given longitude and latitude pair and each zip code within a certain radius from the given longitude and latitude pair;
- render on a display device a graphical representation of a map and a circle around the given longitude and latitude pair on the map, a radius of the circle corresponding to the certain radius;
- render on the display device a graphical user interface comprising data representing a binary option based on whether a storm will make landfall within the certain radius;
- render on the display device a plurality of landfall probabilities on the map, wherein the probabilities are rendered numerically at each zip code, and wherein the probabilities are rendered on centroids of the zip codes;
- receive data indicative of a request to sell the binary option from the graphical user interface;
- keep a margin based, at least in part, on a potential payout of the binary option;
- receive from a remote device a landfall location of the storm;
- identify whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory;
- in response to identifying whether the landfall location corresponds to a zip code associated with the given longitude and latitude pair in the memory, calculate a payout of the binary option;
- and
- facilitate payment of the calculated payout of the binary option.
