Weight loading in an array with a configurable weight register to selectively store a flush value

A processing element comprising:

• an input bus configured to receive an input element and a weight element;
• arithmetic circuitry configured to perform an arithmetic operation using at least the input element;
• an output bus configured to output the input element and a selectable output value;
• and
• a configurable register that is configured to:
• store a flush value;
• receive the weight element;
• and
• based on a control signal, select either the flush value or the weight element to pass to the output bus as the selectable output value, wherein the flush value is a predetermined value that is stored at the configurable register prior to the configurable register receiving the weight element;
• wherein the control signal, when asserted, causes the configurable register to select the flush value to be passed to the output bus as the selectable output value and the weight element to be passed to the arithmetic circuitry such that the arithmetic circuitry performs the arithmetic operation using both the weight element and the input element.
