Abstract
A method for storing data bits in memory cells, in which the data bits have at least one byte-filling bit, where at least one predefined functionality for a subset of the data bits is coded in the at least one byte-filling bit, and in which the data bits are stored in the memory cells. A method for reading data bits from memory cells, in which the data bits have at least one byte-filling bit, where at least one predefined functionality for a subset of the data bits is coded in the at least one byte-filling bit, and in which the data bits are read from the memory cells based on the coded predefined functionality. Corresponding apparatuses and memories are also disclosed.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- setting a value of a first byte-filling bit to a first value to indicate that a subset of data bits will be stored in memory cells in an inverted manner;
- Of
- setting the value of the first byte-filling bit to a second value, different than the first value, to indicate that the subset of data bits will be stored in the memory cells in a non-inverted manner;
- storing the subset of the data bits in the memory cells in an inverted manner in response to the value of the first byte-filling bit being equal to the first value;
- and
- storing the subset of the data bits in the memory cells in a non-inverted manner in response to the value of the first byte-filling bit being equal to the second value.
A method comprising:
- determining whether a first data bit of a plurality of data bits will be stored in memory cells in an inverted manner or a non-inverted manner;
- setting a value of a first byte-filling bit to a first value in response to determining that the first data bit will be stored in the memory cells in an inverted manner;
- setting a value of the first byte-filling bit to a second value, different than the first value, in response to determining that the first data bit will be stored in the memory cells in a non-inverted manner;
- writing the first data bit to the memory cells in an inverted manner in response to the value of the first byte-filling bit being the first value;
- reading the first byte-filling bit from the memory cells;
- reading the first data bit from the memory cells in an inverted manner in response to the value of the first byte-filling bit being the first value;
- and
- reading the first data bit from the memory cells in a non-inverted manner in response to the value of the first byte-filling bit being the second value.
A method comprising:
- identifying whether a first data bit of a plurality of data bits is one of valid, overwritable, readable, or protected;
- setting a value of a first byte-filling bit to a first value in response to identifying that the first data bit is one of valid, overwritable, readable, or protected;
- setting a value of the first byte-filling bit to a second value, different than the first value, in response to identifying that the first data bit is one of invalid, non-overwritable, unreadable, or unprotected;
- setting a value of a second byte-filling bit to a third value to indicate that the first data bit and the first byte-filling bit will be stored in memory cells in an inverted manner;
- and
- inverting the first data bit and the first byte-filling bit and storing the inverted first data bit and the inverted first byte-filling bit in the memory cells in response to the value of the second byte-filling bit being the third value.
