User input device diagnostics

An Information Handling System (IHS) comprising:

• a plurality of user input devices;
• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more memory devices coupled to the one or more processors, the memory devices storing computer-readable instructions that, upon execution by the one or more processors, cause the IHS to:
• determine whether a user is in proximity to the IHS;
• in response to determining that the user is not in proximity to the IHS, monitor for inputs detected by one or more of the user input devices of the IHS;
• in response to the monitoring detecting an input at a first user input device while the user is not in proximity to the IHS, initiate diagnostics to identify whether the detected input is a spurious event or results from a fault in the first user input device;
• and
• in response to determining the user is in proximity to the IHS, exit the diagnostics and report faults identified by the diagnostics.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon for diagnostics of user input devices of an IHS (Information Handling System), wherein execution of the instructions by one or more processors of the IHS causes the IHS to:

• determine whether a user is in proximity to the IHS;
• in response to determining that the user is not in proximity to the IHS, monitor for inputs detected by one or more of the user input devices of the IHS;
• in response to the monitoring detecting an input at a first user input device while the user is not in proximity to the IHS, initiate diagnostics to identify whether the detected input is a spurious event or results from a fault in the first user input device;
• and
• in response to determining the user is in proximity to the IHS, exit the diagnostics and report faults identified by the diagnostics.
