Abstract
In an aspect, disclosed herein are physiological devices and systems, and components thereof, used to evaluate cardiac parameters and arrhythmogenic mechanisms. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.
Claims15
A system for measuring contractile properties and electrical properties of a cardiac cell culture, the system comprising:
- a microelectrode array configured to detect an electrical property from cells cultured thereon;
- a plurality of cantilevers configured to detect contractile forces from cells cultured thereon;
- a monolayer of cardiac myocytes cultured on the microelectrode array and the plurality of cantilevers;
- a medium contacting the monolayer of cardiac myocytes;
- an agent contacting the monolayer;
- and
- a computing device configured to:
- receive an electrical property reading from the monolayer via the microelectrode array;
- receive a contractile force reading from the monolayer via the plurality of cantilevers;
- determine multiple cardiac parameters based on the electrical property reading and the contractile force reading;
- measure a change in each of the multiple cardiac parameters in response to the agent that contacts the monolayer;
- create a characteristic fingerprint of parameter information for the agent based on the change in each of the multiple cardiac parameters.
