Abstract
Wakeboat hull control systems and methods are provided to monitor the orientation of the wakeboat hull in the surrounding water, and to automatically control wakeboat ballast components to achieve or maintain desired hull orientations. Systems and methods are provided to measure, store, and recall hull orientation. Systems and methods are also provided to enable automated action to improve the safety, automation, performance, convenience, and marketing advantage of wakeboat ballast systems.

A wakeboat bilge pump control circuit, the bilge pump control circuit comprising:
- an electric bilge pump;
- a power source;
- a first circuit interrupter having open and closed positions, the first circuit interrupter located between the power source and the electric bilge pump, such that when said first circuit interrupter is in the closed position electrical current will flow through the bilge pump circuit to the electric bilge pump;
- a second circuit interrupter having open and closed positions, the second circuit interrupter located between the power source and the electric bilge pump in a parallel arrangement with the first circuit interrupter, such that when said second circuit interrupter is in the closed position electrical current will flow through the bilge pump circuit to the electric bilge pump even if the first circuit interrupter is in the open position;
- a sensor suitable for monitoring the operational condition of the electric bilge pump;
- and,
- processing circuitry coupled to and receiving measurements from the sensor, the processing circuitry configured to control application of electric current from the power source to the electric bilge pump in response to measurements received from the sensor through operation of first circuit interrupter or second circuit interrupter.
A wakeboat control system suitable for modifying a wake produced by a wakeboat to produce a port wave or a starboard wave suitable for surfing comprising:
- the wakeboat having a hull and a transom;
- a bilge pump control circuit comprising:
- an electric bilge pump;
- a power source;
- a first circuit interrupter having open and closed positions, the first circuit interrupter located between the power source and the electric bilge pump, such that when said first circuit interrupter is in the closed position electrical current will flow through the bilge pump circuit to the electric bilge pump;
- a second circuit interrupter having open and closed positions, the second circuit interrupter located between the power source and the electric bilge pump in a parallel arrangement with the first circuit interrupter, such that when said second circuit interrupter is in the closed position electrical current will flow through the bilge pump circuit to the electric bilge pump even if the first circuit interrupter is in the open position;
- a sensor selected from the group of a voltage sensor and a current sensor;
- and,
- processing circuitry coupled to and receiving measurements from the sensor, the processing circuitry configured to automatically control application of electric current from the power source to the electric bilge pump in response to measurements received from the sensor through operation of first circuit interrupter or second circuit interrupter.
A method for monitoring an electric bilge pump located in a bilge compartment of a wakeboat, the method comprising:
- using at least one sensor to monitor the operation of the electric bilge pump;
- generating a first signal associated with the operational condition of the electric bilge pump;
- transmitting the first signal from the sensor to processing circuitry;
- using the processing circuitry to interpret the first signal and determine whether or not water is present in the bilge compartment.
A method for monitoring an electric bilge pump located in a bilge compartment of a wakeboat, the method comprising:
- using a first sensor to monitor the operation of the electric bilge pump;
- using a water sensor to determine the presence of water in the bilge compartment;
- using the first sensor to generate a first signal associated with the operational condition of the electric bilge pump;
- transmitting the first signal from the sensor to processing circuitry;
- using the processing circuitry to determine one of a motor voltage value or a motor current value for the operational condition of the electric bilge pump;
- transmitting a second signal from the water sensor to the processing circuitry indicative of the presence or absence of water in the bilge compartment;
- wherein when the second signal is indicative of the presence of water but the determined motor voltage value or the determined motor current value is not consistent with the presence of water in the bilge compartment generating a signal to be displayed on a display monitor controlled by the processing circuitry.
A method for monitoring an electric bilge pump located in a bilge compartment of a wakeboat, the method comprising:
- using a first sensor to monitor the operation of the electric bilge pump;
- using a water sensor to determine the presence of water in the bilge compartment;
- using the first sensor to generate a first signal associated with at least one of the motor voltage value or the motor current value during the operation of the electric bilge pump;
- transmitting the first signal from the sensor to a processing circuit, the processing circuit having a memory;
- storing within the memory motor voltage values or motor current values corresponding to voltage and current values consistent with the electric bilge pump pumping of water from the bilge compartment;
- using the processing circuit to interpret the first signal and determine either a motor voltage value or a motor current value for the operational condition of the electric bilge pump;
- transmitting a second signal from the water sensor to the processing circuitry indicative of the presence or absence of water in the bilge compartment;
- when the second signal is indicative of the presence of water and the first signal is indicative of an increase in electric bilge pump operation rate, then the processing circuitry will generate an alert signal indicating a potential loose hose or fitting in the bilge compartment to be displayed on a display monitor controlled by the processing circuitry.
