Abstract
A gaming system may provide for interactable environment geometry (IEG) detection. The gaming system may determine a sensory perspective of a sense of a non-player character (NPC) in a virtual environment of a game simulation, generate perception data of the NPC from the sensory perspective of the sense, input the perception data of the NPC into a detection model associated with the sense and receive, from the detection model, detection data for a detected item. The gaming system may then generate an awareness-based character decision for the NPC based on the detection data of the detected item.

A system, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- determining a sensory perspective of a sense of a non-player character (NPC) in a virtual environment of a game simulation, wherein the sensory perspective comprises a point of view of the NPC that includes a location, a direction, and field-of-view angles for visual awareness of the NPC;
- generating perception data of the NPC from the sensory perspective of the sense, wherein the perception data comprises a point-of-view image rendered from the sensory perspective that is separate from images presented to players;
- inputting the perception data of the NPC into a detection model associated with the sense, wherein the detection model comprises a machine learning model trained to detect objects in the point-of-view image;
- receiving, from the detection model, detection data for a detected item, wherein the detection data includes bounding boxes around the detected item and information identifying what the detected item is;
- and
- generating an awareness-based character decision for the NPC based on the detection data of the detected item.
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- determining a sensory perspective of a sense of a non-player character (NPC) in a virtual environment of a game simulation, wherein the sensory perspective comprises a point of view of the NPC that includes a location, a direction, and field-of-view angles for visual awareness of the NPC;
- generating perception data of the NPC from the sensory perspective of the sense, wherein the perception data comprises a point-of-view image rendered from the sensory perspective that is separate from images presented to players;
- inputting the perception data of the NPC into a detection model associated with the sense, wherein the detection model comprises a machine learning model trained to detect objects in the point-of-view image;
- receiving, from the detection model, detection data for a detected item, wherein the detection data includes bounding boxes around the detected item and information identifying what the detected item is;
- and
- generating an awareness-based character decision for the NPC based on the detection data of the detected item.
One or more computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- determining a sensory perspective of a sense of a non-player character (NPC) in a virtual environment of a game simulation, wherein the sensory perspective comprises a point of view of the NPC that includes a location, a direction, and field-of-view angles for visual awareness of the NPC;
- generating perception data of the NPC from the sensory perspective of the sense, wherein the perception data comprises a point-of-view image rendered from the sensory perspective that is separate from images presented to players;
- inputting the perception data of the NPC into a detection model associated with the sense, wherein the detection model comprises a machine learning model trained to detect objects in the point-of-view image;
- receiving, from the detection model, detection data for a detected item, wherein the detection data includes bounding boxes around the detected item and information identifying what the detected item is;
- and
- generating an awareness-based character decision for the NPC based on the detection data of the detected item.
