This invention relates to methods of treatment and prevention of mastitis in animals by orthosomycin antimicrobial compounds.

A method for treating mastitis in an animal comprising administering to the animal an effective amount of an orthosomycin antimicrobial compound.
An intramammary injector comprising a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of an orthosomycin antimicrobial compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
