Emergency lighting system with battery identification

An emergency LED driver comprising:

• a first interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to a battery;
• a second interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to an LED lighting source;
• a third interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to a controller;
• a current converter configured to couple to the first interface and the second interface and to provide LED current to the LED lighting source;
• a voltage sensor configured to couple to the third interface and to sense an LED voltage across the LED lighting source and provide a first sensed voltage based on the LED voltage;
• a current sensor configured to couple to the third interface and to sense LED current through the LED lighting source and provide a second sensed voltage based on the LED current;
• and
• a current controller configured to couple to the current converter and to the third interface and to adjust the LED current provided by the current converter,
• wherein the emergency LED driver is configured to provide the first sensed voltage based on the LED voltage across the LED lighting source and the second sensed voltage based on the LED current through the LED lighting source to the controller and to receive a current control output from the controller and to adjust the LED current provided to the LED lighting source based on the current control output received from the controller, and
• wherein when emergency mode is entered, the emergency LED driver maintains a first LED current output until the first sensed voltage is within a predetermined range and then increases the LED current until the first sensed voltage and the second sensed voltage indicate a predetermined LED power level.

An emergency LED lighting system comprising:

• an emergency LED driver comprising:
• a first interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to a battery;
• a second interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to an LED lighting source;
• a third interface configured to couple the emergency LED driver to a controller;
• a current converter configured to couple to the first interface and the second interface and to provide LED current to the LED lighting source;
• a voltage sensor configured to couple to the third interface and to sense an LED voltage across the LED lighting source and provide a first sensed voltage based on the LED voltage;
• a current sensor configured to couple to the third interface and to sense LED current through the LED lighting source and provide a second sensed voltage based on the LED current;
• and
• a current controller configured to couple to the current converter and to the third interface and to adjust the LED current provided by the current converter;
• the LED lighting source;
• the battery;
• and
• the controller,
• wherein during an emergency mode the emergency LED driver is configured to provide the first sensed voltage based on the LED voltage across the LED lighting source and the second sensed voltage based on the LED current through the LED lighting source to the controller, the controller is configured to determine an LED power level and to provide a current control output to the emergency LED driver, the emergency LED driver is configured to adjust the LED current provided to the LED lighting source based on the current control output to maintain a predetermined LED power level.
