Abstract
A method, computer program product, and system are disclosed. The method, when implemented in a computer system, includes determining a change deposit amount, determining account information (the account information identifying an account), and initiating a deposit operation, where the deposit operation includes performing an electronic deposit of the change deposit amount to the account. The determining is performed by a digital change application that is installed in a mobile device. The digital change application is configured to initiate the electronic deposit of the change deposit amount to the account.
Claims23
A method, implemented in a computer system, comprising:
- receiving a request for authorization at a digital change server, wherein
- the request is received as a result of a cash-initiated purchase by a customer,
- the digital change server receives the request for authorization from an electronic device communicatively coupled to the digital change server via a network,
- the request for authorization comprises
- merchant identification information,
- change deposit amount information, and
- a digital change identifier,
- the change deposit amount information represents a change deposit amount,
- the digital change identifier identifies a customer account associated with the customer, and
- the request for authorization is a request to authorize performance of a deposit process;
- identifying a merchant account based, at least in part, on the merchant identification information;
- determining whether the deposit process is authorized, wherein
- the performance of the deposit process results in an electronic deposit of funds, in an amount equal to the change deposit amount, into the customer account, by effecting an electronic transfer of the funds from the merchant account to the customer account;
- generating an authorization message, wherein
- the generating comprises
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is authorized, generating the authorization message with a digital change token included therein, and
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is not authorized, generating the authorization message without the digital change token included therein, and
- the digital change token is a software-based security token that causes initiation of the deposit process by an acquirer as a result of communication of the digital change token from the electronic device to the acquirer via the network, if the digital change token is included in the authorization message;
- and
- communicating the authorization message from the digital change server to the electronic device via the network, wherein
- inclusion of the digital change token in the authorization message indicates that the customer is authorized to receive the funds in the customer account, and causes the initiation of the deposit process by the acquirer by virtue of facilitating provision of the electronic device to send the digital change token to the acquirer,
- the deposit process comprises an electronic transfer operation that comprises
- communicating the digital change token from the electronic device to the acquirer, and
- the digital change token, when received by the acquirer, causes the acquirer to effect performance of the electronic transfer of the funds from the merchant account to the customer account.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium,
- comprising program instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors of a computing system, perform a method comprising:
- receiving a request for authorization at a digital change server, wherein
- the request is received as a result of a cash-initiated purchase by a customer,
- the digital change server is configured to receive the request for authorization from an electronic device communicatively coupled to the digital change server via a network,
- the request for authorization comprises
- merchant identification information,
- change deposit amount information, and
- a digital change identifier,
- the change deposit amount information represents a change deposit amount,
- the digital change identifier identifies a customer account associated with the customer, and
- the request for authorization is a request to authorize performance of a deposit process;
- identifying a merchant account based, at least in part, on the merchant identification information;
- determining whether the deposit process is authorized, wherein
- the performance of the deposit process results in an electronic deposit of funds, in an amount equal to the change deposit amount, into the customer account, by effecting an electronic transfer of the funds from the merchant account to the customer account;
- generating an authorization message, wherein
- the generating comprises
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is authorized, generating the authorization message with a digital change token included therein, and
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is not authorized, generating the authorization message without the digital change token included therein, and
- the digital change token is a software-based security token configured to cause initiation of the deposit process by an acquirer as a result of communication of the digital change token from the electronic device to the acquirer via the network;
- and
- communicating the authorization message from the digital change server to the electronic device via the network, wherein
- inclusion of the digital change token in the authorization message indicates that the customer is authorized to receive the funds in the customer account, which is configured to cause the initiation of the deposit process by the acquirer by virtue of being configured to facilitate provision of the electronic device to send the digital change token to the acquirer,
- the deposit process comprises an electronic transfer operation that comprises
- communicating the digital change token from the electronic device to the acquirer, and
- the digital change token, when received by the acquirer, is configured to cause the acquirer to effect performance of the electronic transfer of the funds from the merchant account to the customer account.
A computing system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a computer-readable storage medium coupled to the one or more processors, comprising program instructions, which, when executed by the one or more processors, perform a method comprising
- receiving a request for authorization at a digital change server, wherein
- the request is received as a result of a cash-initiated purchase by a customer,
- the digital change server is configured to receive the request for authorization from an electronic device communicatively coupled to the digital change server via a network,
- the request for authorization comprises
- merchant identification information,
- change deposit amount information, and
- a digital change identifier,
- the change deposit amount information represents a change deposit amount,
- the digital change identifier identifies a customer account associated with the customer, and
- the request for authorization is a request to authorize performance of a deposit process,
- identifying a merchant account based, at least in part, on the merchant identification information,
- determining whether the deposit process is authorized, wherein
- the performance of the deposit process results in an electronic deposit of funds, in an amount equal to the change deposit amount, into the customer account, by effecting an electronic transfer of the funds from the merchant account to the customer account,
- generating an authorization message, wherein
- the generating comprises
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is authorized, generating the authorization message with a digital change token included therein, and
- in response to a determination that the deposit process is not authorized, generating the authorization message without the digital change token included therein, and
- the digital change token is a software-based security token configured to cause initiation of the deposit process by an acquirer as a result of communication of the digital change token from the electronic device to the acquirer via the network, and
- communicating the authorization message from the digital change server to the electronic device via the network, wherein
