Controller and methods for managing timing charcteristics using collected metrics and a telemetry ratio

An apparatus, comprising:

• a memory device;
• and
• a memory controller configured to manage the memory device, wherein the memory controller comprises:
• a first portion configured to couple to a host;
• a second portion comprising:
• a plurality of cache memories each comprising:
• a metric circuitry configured to collect, within a threshold amount of time, metrics related to memory operations using a plurality of counters;
• and
• load telemetry circuitry configured to collect, within the threshold amount of time, load telemetry associated with performing the memory operations;
• and
• a storage area to store the collected metrics and the collected load telemetry, wherein the collected load telemetry is stored in the storage area after the threshold amount of time;
• and
• a management circuitry configured to alter at least one of a timing characteristic of an interface in the first portion, a timing characteristic of the memory device, a timing characteristic of the cache memories, or any combination thereof, based on the collected metrics and a telemetry ratio obtained from the collected load telemetry, wherein the telemetry ratio is determined by dividing a read telemetry count or a write telemetry count by a preset value, a maximum number of accesses, or a number of accesses over a set time period.

A method, comprising:

• receiving access requests involving a memory device;
• responsive to the access requests, performing memory operations on a cache of a controller;
• collecting, for a particular amount of time, information associated with performing the memory operations on the cache, the information including:
• metrics collected via a metric circuitry of the controller;
• and
• load telemetry collected via load telemetry circuitry of the controller, wherein the collected load telemetry is stored in a storage area subsequent to the particular amount of time;
• and
• altering, based on the collected metrics and a telemetry ratio, one or more timing characteristic selected from the group comprising:
• a timing characteristic of an interface of a portion of the controller;
• a timing characteristic of a first type of memory device to which the controller is coupled;
• a timing characteristic of a second type of memory device to which the controller is coupled;
• and
• a timing characteristic of the cache.
