Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to a system and method to pack and convey fresh produce, in particular, for flow packing produce with an aerated packaging material into package bundles of produce prior to sealing thereof for handling and delivery.
Claims17
A produce packaging system configured to facilitate enclosing produce within an aerated packaging material, the aerated packaging material being configured to spontaneously close, the system comprising:
- a scaffold comprising an upper edge and a closeable produce outlet opening, the upper edge being configured to hold open the aerated packaging material so as to receive and confine the produce therewithin when the produce outlet opening is in a closed configuration;
- and
- a conveyer system configured to facilitate transitioning the produce outlet opening from its closed configuration to an open configuration thereof, facilitating exiting of the produce confined within the aerated packaging material through the produce outlet opening and releasing the aerated packaging material from the upper edge, thereby allowing the aerated packaging material to spontaneously close thus enclosing the product therewithin.
A method for packaging produce within an aerated packaging material, the aerated packaging material being configured to spontaneously close, the method comprising:
- positioning on a surface, a scaffold comprising an upper edge and a produce outlet opening wherein the produce outlet opening is a front opening, rear opening, side opening, bottom opening or any combination thereof;
- placing an aerated packaging material over the upper edge of the scaffold so as to hold open the aerated packaging material;
- introducing produce through the upper edge and into the aerated packaging material, such that the produce is confined within the aerated packaging material;
- separating the scaffold from the surface, such that a weight of the produce pushes the produce confined within the aerated packaging material out from the produce outlet opening, thereby releasing the aerated packaging material confining the produce therein from the upper edge of the scaffold, thereby allowing the aerated packaging material to spontaneously close thus enclosing the produce therein.
